Lisa Salem

dear dear michael, remember when you taught semester at sea?  you came over to our house in highland park with a map and went over the ship's itenerary with anthony, thomas and rania who were fascinated by the thought of their professor "uncle" taking off on a trip around the world.  when you were away, you'd send us postcards from the various docking stations and we'd hurry to the map in the bedroom to put another tack on another port.  so the manganaro-salems tracked your semester week by week and waited anxiously for your return.  as a bonus for your teaching, you were offered the choice of money or an encyclopedia set.  you chose the latter and promptly donated it to the trio where it served them for many many years as their main reference before google took over.  you always treated the kids like adults, loving them but never condescending or simplifying things for them, and they, like we, love you for it.  hugs from lisa in lebanon.
